Czech line-up for the European Race Walking Team Championships

09. 05. 2023

There are less than two weeks left until the start of the European Race Walking Team Championships in Poděbrady, and the home team has also revealed its nomination. The Czech Republic will be represented by seven athletes.

Eliška Martínková, who will start in the 20 kilometer race, can be considered the leader of the Czech team. Coach Kateřina Čermáková's protege is doing well in Poděbrady. Two years ago, she dominated the junior women's race in the last edition of this championship here and thus started a successful season, which she ended by winning silver at the European Junior Championship and bronze at the World Championship in the same category.

A year later, she took fifth place at the Podebrady Walking meeting in a personal best of 1:30:53, which qualified her for the World Championships in Eugene and also for the European Championships in Munich, where she finished seventh as the youngest competitor in the entire starting field.

Eliška is currently in the Italian Alps, which she chose for her final preparation before the first peak of this season, where she would like to accomplish several goals. "Preparation is going well, so I'm really looking forward to Poděbrady. I would like to try for the Summer World Universiade limit of 1:34:00 and fight for the best possible result and valuable ranking points. It would be great to also fulfill the confirmation performance of time for the start at the World Championships in Budapest, which has a value of 1:32:00," he says.

Tereza Ďurdiaková, the Czech record holder for this distance, will take part in the 35 kilometer race. The participant of last year's World and European Championships would like to follow up on the ninth place from the previous European Race Walking Team Championships, which will be very difficult in much stronger competition. She, too, will surely direct her efforts to meet the time confirmation performance towards the World Championship, which is set at exactly three hours.

Vít Hlaváč also already has experience from the previous European Race Waliking Team Championships. Two years ago, he took 35th place in the 20 kilometer race. This time she will compete at her stronger distance, which is thirty-five. The ninth man of the last European Championships in Munich in this discipline will aim for a time of 2:36:00, which is the value of the confirmation performance of the TIME for Budapest. His national record, set at last year's World Championships in Eugene, is 2:32:50.

In the men's 20 kilometer race, we will have double representation in Adam Zajíček and Jaromír Morávek. For both, the main goal is to meet the limit for the start at the U23 European Championships, which has a value of 1:28:00.

Among the juniors, the home team will be represented by Ema Klimentová and Alžběta Franklová.
